Overview

Over 46 knots, safe in 4 m seas, built for daily port patrol

An 8.8 m high-speed surveillance RHIB developed for Dutch seaport police operations in and around the Port of Rotterdam: fast, agile and strong enough to work at high speed in above-average weather across the whole patrol area, and still safe to deploy in 4 m seas and wind force 7.

A centrally mounted Volvo Penta D6 marine diesel with turbo and compressor drives a Duoprop sterndrive through an extended shaft. The boat reaches a top speed of over 46 knots (47 knots expected) and holds at least 30 knots for 2–3 hours at sea in 1 m waves. The engine is equipped to run at up to 45° heel and stops automatically on capsize; air intakes sit about 900 mm above deck with de-misters, so the engine room cannot flood.

The deep-V hull is built from GRP epoxy with core-cell bulkheads and frames — no wood — and voids filled with closed-cell foam make the boat unsinkable; it keeps its freeboard even with deflated tubes. A full tube runs around the stern to protect the drive, a stainless steel frame carries a self-righting bag, lights, radar and antennas, and police blue (RAL 5002) and livery are applied to the force’s house style.

Engine safety

SOLAS-equipped engine that operates up to 45° heel and shuts down automatically on capsize (marine mercury switch). Air intake and ventilation sit about 900 mm above deck with a de-misting lamella system, can be closed for fire fighting, and are arranged so the engine room cannot flood if the boat is swamped. Engine pre-heating from shore power.

Fuel system

Fully duplicated fuel lines with RACOR duplex filter/water separators, stainless steel valves and a three-way cock, a magnetic fuel filter before the pump and an emergency shut-off directly behind the tank. All piping and fittings in stainless steel; the tank is filled and vented through the bow bollard.

Console

The 2007 console design hinges high on the console rather than at deck level: lighter and safe to open even in heavy seas, with a stiffer watertight seal and no holes drilled through the deck. Gas struts, laminated polycarbonate windscreen, stainless steel handgrips rated for 100 kg, separate ventilated and heated electrics space, and two Ullman seats.

Self-righting & deck

Stainless steel frame on the transom carries the self-righting bag (CO2, manual or hydrostatic release), all-round light, blue light, radar, reflector and antennas with cabling in a stainless duct. Recessed towing eye under the bow tube, Lloyd’s-compliant recessed lifting eyes, watertight storage in the foredeck and console with heavy-duty aluminium hatches.

Warranty

Lifetime warranty on manufacturing faults in the hull; 2 years on tube, tube attachment, electrics and fittings; 1 year (or 1,000 hours) on engine, drive and electronics.
